It is the art of Planning, Planning can be of different types like in building and civilization faulty it is the planning of buildings inculcated with comfort, beauty by proper application of Principles of Planning.
It includes the art of making a structure properly planned in all perspectives from its very good looks to the future requirements.
In Construction business it is the Architect who makes the plan of a building considering area and permitted FSI in that locality. It is the Architect who prepares the plan and gets it sanctioned from the concerned Governing Authority.
While preparing the plan the Architect has to take care that there's no interruption to the local environment. He has to plan for the position of toilets and sanitation for a building and also the necessary disposal plan.

Basically Civil Engineering is the Engineering of Civilisation.
It is a field related with Planning, Developing and Sustaining Civilisations.
It involves task from Drawing to Maintenance of Structures.
The basic elements of Civilisation involves the need for energy sources, water supply, transportation and the basic necessity of a human that is Shelter. The buildings we see touching the sky are products of civil engineering.
Although it includes the Gaint Structures like Dams, Flyovers, Bridges, Railways, etc. Yet it is the Oldest field of Engineering
It involves different areas :
1) Structural Enginering
2) Irrigation Engineering
3) Geotechnical Engineering
4) Transportation Engineering
5) Foundation Engineering
And Many more which I shall include in my next Post.
